Dallas Cowboys June 2009: Mini-Camp video Highlights!

It's clear the guys are working hard at this week's mini-camp.  This quick snapshot shows a hand full of nice plays and note the run by Felix Jones at the end.  He is running at full speed and looks good.

The bad news is there were several interceptions thrown.  It is not clear who through all of them but it is concerning coming off of last year.

Dallas Cowboys OTA 2009: Wildcat or Razorback???

Whatever you call it looks like the Cowboys want to use their version of the Wildcat that several teams used last season.  The Cowboys call it the ‘Razorback’ and it looks like their going to try to get the ball into the hands of the three headed monster quickly.

 

Here is how they are trying to run it:

 

With Tony Romo split wide left and Roy Williams in the slot, Crayton took shotgun snaps with Jones motioning across the backfield from wide right. Marc Colombo lined up outside of LT Flozell Adams, creating an unbalanced line effect. Jason Witten lined up as an eligible receiver outside of RG Leonard Davis, and Martellus Bennett was off the line of scrimmage to the right.

 

The Cowboys ran four plays out of the Razorback. Jones got the ball on a speed sweep once and was used as a play-action decoy on the other three: a run to the right by Crayton and the ex-Northwestern Oklahoma State QB Crayton threw low and behind Bennett on an out and threw the other pass away when there was good coverage down field.

Dallas Cowboy 2009 rookie Mini-Camp Starts Today thru Sunday!!!

It's only rookie mini-camp but I am jacked up.

Today is the first opportunity for the Cowboys' new draftees, eight undrafted free agents and five veterans to get into the locker room and on the field as DALLAS COWBOYS.

Rookie mini-camp runs through Sunday.

Cowboys Make Rookie Camp Alumni Camp

The Dallas Cowboys rookie camp looked more like an alumni weekend as Barry Switzer, Emmitt Smith, Nate Newton, Gil Brandt, Neill Armstrong, Chris Canty, Jay Ratliff, and Deon Anderson all made appearances. With Dave Campo back on staff, three of the seven Cowboys head coaches were in attendance. 

Switzer was happy with new running back Felix Jones and Emmitt Smith, the greatest running back ever, gave Jones some advise and feedback along with Tashard Choice.  Smith thought Jones was leaving his chest exposed too much at the point of contact, easily allowing the linebacker to get his hands on him to disrupt his route.

Smith said he did not know if Felix knew him from Adam or Eve but Jones said, "Some information that I'll carry on for the rest of my career. He was just telling me that I needed to work on craft a little more, make it easier on me and not so much harder."

Advice from legends like Smith and experienced coaches like Switzer will only help to mold this rookie class into the next Cowboys greats.
