Clearly, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reads TheCowboysCorner.com as one day after I asked "Where is Jerry Jones?" out pops the teams owner on the NFL Newtork.

Was he there to break a story of a pending free agent signing...No.  He is talking about a boxing match that is being held at Cowboys Stadium.  Clearly, Mr. Jones needs to get his head into the NFL free agent game as a boxing match will not help the Cowboys get to the Super Bowl in February 2011.

Cowboys Fans - It's been 15 years since the last Super Bowl!!!

Cowboy’s fans, enough already about no playoff win since 1996.  That streak will end this weekend and where will we be then?

If you look at the Cowboys Championship banner at the top of the page please note that there was a 15 year span between the Roger Staubach lead Super Bowls which ended in 1977 and the Troy Aikman lead Super Bowls which started in 1992.

 

Well its 2010, and it has been 15 years since 1995 and it’s time to stop thinking small.  The Cowboys have shown that they can play with the best teams in the NFL.  There is no team in the NFL that the Cowboys would or should be afraid of.  It’s time to start thinking bigger.  If your only goal is to win ‘a’ playoff game that will be all that you will win.

Cowboys Ware Misses Practice!!!

With a short week between Eagles games every practice counts but DeMarcus Ware missed practice today as well as RB Marion Barber.  This is not good news but what is good news is that Marc Colombo, Tashard Choice and Pat Watkins did practice.  This is great news Colombo will only make the offensive line stronger, Choice will be able to rotate with Barber and Jones to keep fresh legs on the field throughout the game and Watkins will be need as I expect the Eagles to throw early and often in this game.

 

EAGLES Staff Member Spits on Dallas Star!!! Class Act!!!

Philadelphia Eagles' Web site director Dave Spadaro has apologized for his video, shown on the official site, in which he spits on the star in the middle of Cowboys Stadium in Arlington this week.

The Spinless whimp has had the video removed from the site and UTUBE.  This coming from the same team that has a convicted felon for a QB.

The best response is to cheer that much more when the Cowboys spank the Eagles Saturday Night!!!

Cowboys Romo - Williams not Shaking Hands!!!

 
I'm sure every Cowboys fan heart sank when they showed Romo laying on the turf after taking a late hit late in the Divison Clinching game against the Eagles.  Romo got up slowly and walked ever so carefully back to the bench. 

What fans may have not noticed was as Romo walked off the field WR Roy Williams walked out on the field to shake his hand or give him some sort of high five.  I looked at it several times it looked like their 'hand shake / fist pump" missed.  The look on Romo's face said it all.  He put no effort into responding to Williams' gesture and he walked right by him.

If they can not shake hands after a play it is not surprising that they are not shaking hands during the play.  Romo, who spread the ball to multiple receivers only threw at Williams one time.  It was a catchable ball but it went incomplete.  Romo never went back to him and towards the end of the game Williams was on the sideline watching Patrick Crayton and Kevin Olgetree make catches.

They say that chemistry is needed on the field.  It looks as if the entire Cowboys team has that chemistry needed to go far into the playoffs.  That is of course except Romo to Williams.

Whatever it is that Williams is or is not doing has to stop.  As the #1 WR, he has to get open and make plays.  HE HAS TO CATCH THE BALL!

My hope is that the playoffs will bring out the best in Williams and he will shine.  Or at least the coverage will get rolled to Austin and he can break free in single coverage. 

Make some catches, shake hands on the field and the off field hand shakes will be much better!

Eagles WR DeSean Jackson - A man of many words!!!

Who knew that Eagles WR DeSean Jackson was such the eloquent writer.  This is from his Twitter post after the 24 - 0 loss to the Cowboys! 

During the game they showed Jackson walking through several plays with little or no effort.  Was he dogging it or just saving it for this week's playoff matchup?

DEFENSE WINS SUPER BOWLS!!!

The TV Broadcasters tonight said that Tony Romo has set a team record by taking very snap from center this year.  It's great that he has stayed healthy and he is the main reason why the Cowboys are in the playoffs.  The only problem is that is not entirely true.  The Cowboys like the rest of the league is now running the Wildcat offense.  Tashard Choice took the snaps from center for the Wildcat.  Either way it was still a great season for Romo.

The Defense on the other hand have thrown their 2nd shutout in a row.  This is the first time that that has happened in the Cowboys 50 year history.  Defense wins Super Bowls and the Cowboys defense is making it happen in many ways.  They are also getting help from a ball control /clock control offense and a Special Teams group that is giving them good field position.

The defense only gave up 228 yards total and the Cowboys had the ball for more than 40 minutes.

Barber for 32 yards.  Oh Baby!!!

Witten for the TD!  Nice effort to get the ball over the goal line.

DEFEBSE WINS SUPER BOWLS!!!

 

Eagles have not been shut out in the first half all season.  They had their chances but could not convert.   Overall a good half for the Cowboys.  The Special Teams played well with two kickoffs for touchbacks.  The offense has been steady again.  The running game is over 100 yards in the first half which included several long runs from Jones and Barber.

 

The defense has been bend but don’t break.  They recovered one turnover and have been hitting hard.  They have one sack but have not gotten much pressure on McNabb.

DALLAS COWBOYS NFC EAST CHAMPIONS 2009

 

The team that few people thought could win the NFC East let alone a game in the month of December or January have just won the NFC East and will host a playoff game next week against the same Philadelphia Eagles!!!

The Cowboys came out and just dominated the Eagles throughout the game shutting out the Eagles for the first time in four years.  This shutout was the second in a row for the Cowboys which is a first for the Cowboys in their 50 year history!

NFL Fans need to stop talking about what the Cowboys have done in the last decade and start talking about what they might do in the next decade.

The Cowboys - Eagles Rivalry will only get better next week as the Eagles have to go back to Dallas to play the Cowboys again.  Rivalries are what make football great and this should be a great one.

The Cowboys and Eagles have played three times before in the playoffs.  The Cowboys have won two of three.

Cowboys Eagles Season Ending History!!!

Eagles-Cowboys. Final day of the season. We've been here before. A few times.

Last year it was to get into the playoffs and the Eagles won 44-6.

Back in 1980:

The Eagles went into their regular-season finale at Texas Stadium 12-3, the Cowboys 11-4. A Cowboys win would leave both teams 12-4 overall, with a head-to-head split and identical 6-2 division records, 9-3 conference records and 8-2 marks against common opponents. The next tiebreaker was point differential in NFC East games, and the Cowboys had to win by 25 points or more to finish the season with a net divisional point differential over the Eagles - and win the division.

Twenty-five points? Impossible, right?

So a few minutes into the fourth quarter, after Danny White's 15-yard TD pass to Billy Joe DuPree, the Cowboys led 35-10. That would be 25 points.

The Falcons had already locked up the No. 1 seed in the playoffs because of a win over the Eagles, and if the Eagles didn't score a point in the game's final 10 1/2 minutes, they'd be forced to play a wild-card game on the road the following week.

So in the next 10 minutes, Ron Jaworski threw a 30-yard TD pass to Rodney Parker, Tony Franklin hit a short field goal and Wilbert Montgomery scored on a 6-yard run. The Cowboys won 35-27, but the Eagles won the net point differential tiebreaker. Two weeks later, the Cowboys came to Philly for the legendary 1980 NFC Championship Game, and after a 20-7 win, the Eagles were on their way to their first Super Bowl.

The good news is what ever happens today the Cowboys are still in the playoffs but it would be great to go into the playoffs as NFC East Champions!!!

1.Eagles C Nick Cole and RG Max Jean-Gilles vs. Cowboys NT Jay Ratliff. Ratliff is an athletic NT with 6 sacks who is going to his first Pro Bowl. Cole is making his first start at center and Jean-Gilles doesn't really have the foot speed to deal with a nose man with Ratliff's agility. Advantage: Cowboys

2. Eagles RDE Trent Cole vs. Cowboys LT Flozell Adams. Cole has 12 1/2 sacks, including 3 in the last 2 games. The 6-7 Adams has had a lot of problems with the high-motor Cole, who plays low and can't get under the bigger man's pads. Advantage: Eagles

3. Eagles WRs DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin vs. Cowboys CBs Terence Newman and Mike Jenkins. Newman and Jenkins held them to a combined 5 catches for 73 yards in first meeting. Since then, they've combined for nearly 1,000 yards and averaged a collective 15.9 yards per catch. The Cowboys secondary is healthy and has played well down the stretch.  Advantage: Cowboys

Eagles QB Donavon McNabb vs. Cowboys QB Tony Romo.  All week the Eagles have talked like they have been there before and they have, but they have always found a way to lose in the end and I think that may be in the back of McNabb's head.  How many more chances will he get?  Pressure on him!  No one expected Romo to be in this spot.  He has played well and deserves to be there.  He has played in the playoffs already and has much to prove.  Winning today will start to turn some heads.  Advantage Cowboys.

5. Eagles Offense vs. Cowboys Fans. Do not be surprised if Cowboys Stadium sets a new record for attendance today.  My hope is that Jones will keep the dome closed and that he will make that place as loud as possible during the game.  Advantage Cowboys!!!

Looks like both teams are fairly healthy.  Donavan McNabb was limping after a long run in last weeks game.  It's not mentioned here but he was limping.  Maybe the Cowboys can get him running.

Rivalry and Revenge: Cowboys – Eagles 2009

 

 

It was right out of a movie script when the 2009 NFL Schedule was released and it showed the repeat of the season ending meeting between the Eagles and the Cowboys!  Last year’s meeting was to just get into the playoffs and the Eagles just embarrassed the Cowboys who simply gave up in a 44-6 Eagles blowout.

 

The rivalry between the Cowboys and Eagles is now going on 50+ years.  In that time both teams have had exciting wins and devastating losses.  It has had Fedora Hats, the Bounty Bowl, nail biters, blowouts and at least one playoff meeting.

 

The offseason for both teams was traumatic.  The Eagles lost their long time defensive coordinator Jim Johnson to cancer and the Cowboys had their practice facility collapse on them leaving one staff member in a wheel chair and one coach in a neck brace.

 

This year the rivalry has continued with an early season Cowboys victory.  This season ending game is destined to take the rivalry to an entirely different level.

 

Though much is on the line in this game both teams are in the playoffs no matter what happens.  That said it could possibly set up an even bigger rematch game just a few days later.

 

The Eagles have for the most part dominated the Cowboys and the NFC since 2000.  They are no strangers to the playoffs; the Cowboys on the other hand have not won a playoff game since the Clinton Administration.  Are they due?

 

The Eagles have been to one Super Bowl and five NFC Championship games which has been a great run.  They have clearly been the NFC team of the decade.  Are they due?

 

The Cowboys season ending struggles have been well documented but most teams do not do well at the end of the season.  That is why there is only one Super Bowl Winner each year.

 

Revenge is not supposed to part of Professional Football.  If you ask players on either team last year was last year and it does not matter.   Well that is just crap.  The fans have not forgotten for sure and the Cowboys have not forgotten either.  To be embarrassed on national television and sent home as underachievers has made the Cowboys offseason very, very long. 

 

This week’s matchup looks to be a huge physical battle.  The Eagles will have RB Brian Westbrook who did not play in their first meeting which will be a huge plus for the Eagles as he has been a Cowboy killer his whole career.

 

The Cowboys now appear to have a quarterback that will not lose the game for them.  He is definitely a better QB then he was last season.  The Cowboys are also better in that they can run the ball with three solid running backs.  This may give the Cowboys an edge as they will be able to control the clock!

 

Something else will be different about this rematch game.  It will be in Dallas and it is expected that there will be a record crowd on hand for this season ending game.  Usually I predict that the Cowboys and Eagles will split their season series.  That may not be the case this year. 

 

Rivalry and Revenge: they will both make for a great game!  Expect fireworks and more!  Question is which team is due?
