Dallas Cowboys 2010: Montrae Holland - Unrestricted Free Agent!!!

Montrae Holland - Free Agent

The Cowboys only unrestricted free agent is reserve offensive guard Montrae Holland.  The Cowboys will be looking to improve their offensive line this off season after what happened in Minnesota in January.  Holland did not get the chance to play much this season but an upgrade is possible.

The good news is that the Cowboys have most of their players locked up for 2010.  Owner Jerry Jones says he expects as many as 10 or 11 new faces on the team in 2010 via the draft or free agency.  If that is true the Cowboys could package several players together to move up in the draft, make a trade or get a solid free agent.

After last year's strange draft I am hoping that Jerry Jones and company learned that instant play makers are usually only found in the first or second round of the draft or in free agency. 

Time to get some more play makers!

Cowboys T Colombo S Watkins Do Not Practice!!!

 
It does not look like this guy will be playing this Sunday.

The slender chance of offensive tackle Marc Colomboand safety-special teams ace Patrick Watkins returning for the Dallas Cowboysthis week vanished when they did not particiapte in Wednesday's practice.

Colombo (leg) and Watkins (knee) were able to do rehab work on the field and could return for the first post-season game. Colombo will have missed the final seven games because of the injury. That is the highest number of games missed because of injury by a starter this season.

Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett says the Cowboys offensive play calling is 'balanced.' 

I don't want balance - I want an un-balanced number of wins!

On 555 snaps this season, the Cowboys have run the ball 230 times, and including Tony Romo's sacks they have called 325 passes, a 58.5 pass-to-run percentage. They average 33.7 passes per game, and 25.6 runs. Even better, the Cowboys have been good at both. They are tied for fifth in the league with an 8.3-yards per passing attempt average, and rank second in average yards per rush, at a 5.1-yard clip.

Blah, Blah, Blah!!!

The Packers game play calling was 44-11 pass to run.  No balance no victory.

The Packers game was winnable to the last if they had just cranked up the tree headed monster and worked down the field.  They passed and passed and it hurt them.  5 Sacks and two turnovers because of the PASSING game. 

No balance there.

The Cowboys strength through the first half of the season was a surprising running game.  Two TE sets and the three headed monster behind a big fullback.  November is nearing its end.  It will be getting cold and nothing warms a December day like a good running game.

THE FLOZELL FOLLIES!!!

In this week's installment Mr. Adams gets himself into trouble again.

Cowboys left tackle Flozell Adams was fined $7,500 by the NFL for trying to kick Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers in Monday's game. Adams has been fined $25,000 for on-the-field infractions this season.

This is where coaches need to do their job.  Flozell has been too un-disciplined this year.  It is worse then last year and will cost the Cowboys a game if they are not careful.

Time for the coaches and Flozell to man-up and play football!

Dallas Cowboys Bush Leaguer Flozell Adams

On a night when former President Bush was in the building Flozell Adams got called for a leg whip and was later fined $12k for it.  Justin Tuck was hurt on the play because he fell awkwardly.  Was this a bad play? YES! Was it dirty? YES!  Does it go on, on almost every play? Pretty Much! 

I was more concern that Adams got beat cleanly by Tucks and that Romo was about to get killed.  Adams needs to play better and cleaner so that Romo doesn’t get killed.

Dallas Cowboys Rookie OT Brewster may miss season!!!

Dallas Cowboys' Training Camp 2009 took its first hit and it hasn't even started yet.  Brewster, a two-time All-Mid-American Conference pick, said the injury occurred at the end of one his final scheduled workouts before reporting to camp.

It's a shame, he was the Cowboys 2nd pick in this year's draft.  The Cowboys had high hopes for him coming out of a small school like Ball St.

Dallas Cowboys RT Marc Colombo Locked and Loaded $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Colombo signed a 4 year contract extension worth $22 million.  He has been a steady player for the Cowboys since coming over from the Bears.  His knee has not been a problem.  Former coach Parcells made a good choice.

Dallas Cowboys OL Cory Procter - Lineman of the Week!

Backup Cory Procter started at left guard in place of the injured Montrae Holland. Phillips said Procter was the best offensive lineman of the week. Giants defensive end Justin Tuck didn't have a major impact. He had five tackles and half a sack.

Dallas Cowboys' Kyle Kosier Out for Season!

In a ig loss to the Cowboys, guard Kyle Kosier was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Kosier will probably have surgery this week on his fractured right foot.

Kosier played in three games this season after suffering the injury in a preseason game against Houston. Kosier re-injured the foot Nov. 23 against San Francisco.

Backup center Cory Procter took Kosier's spot in the first half of the season. Montrae Holland, who was acquired in a preseason trade, started at left guard Thursday against the Seahawks.

To fill the roster spot formerly held by Kosier, the Cowboys signed linebacker Steve Octavien off Washington's practice squad. The rookie out of Nebraska had 92 tackles, two sacks and 15 tackles for losses as a senior.
