Cowboys WR Williams - " Blame Me"

 
"That's not on them. I don't blame them. I blame myself. I've got to get my crap together and try to help this team win some games in the playoffs."

Well no Sh*t!!!

Williams said Wednesday that the onus is on him to earn more opportunities. He has only one catch in each of the past two games, during which he has failed to catch four passes that hit him in the hands.  Romo's only interception of December was a ball that ricocheted off Williams' hands which I'm sure did not make him happy.

Williams' dropped passes have really been a drive killer this year.  He has played better in the second half of the season but if he is to continue to be the number 1 receiver he has to catch balls thrown at him.

If he can make just one critical catch in each game the rest of the season and playoffs all may be forgotten, maybe.  He has been a near-bust so far and other teams know it.

Bob Hayes or Clint Longley?

The Cowboys WR Miles Austin had several weeks of Hall of Fame like games as the #2 WR.  Other teams saw this and realized that #1 WR Roy Williams was not the real threat (too many dropped balls) and shifted their attention to Austin.

Now that the secret is out, Austin will now need to show the NFL and Cowboys fans that he can beat the top coverage that the other teams can throw at him.  This means beating double coverage and the opposition's #1 CB this week and the rest of the season.

If Williams steps up that will help.  Now we will see if they need to reserve a spot in Canton!!!

Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw fired away at Dallas Cowboys' wide receiver Roy Williams for his performance in Sunday's loss. ``Dallas lost that game when Roy Williams dropped that pass and then fumbled, too,'' said Bradshaw, a cohost of FOX's NFL Sunday show. ``He may have finished with 100 yards receiving, but he's certainly not worth two first-round picks and all that money Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is paying him. He's not proving anything.''

Usually I ignore Mr. Bradshaw but this time he has it right.  Time for Roy Williams to be the consistant player he was touted as.  #2 WR Miles Austin is having a Hall of Fame season so that should help get Williams some running room.

It could have been his break out game with the Cowboys...but it wasn't.  and that last catch for a TD was a nice catch.  The kind he has supposed to be making all year as a #1 receiver.  He better get better or he will lose his starting position.

Cowboys WR Williams: "My Balls are Everywhere"

Cowboys #1 WR is showing some frustration that his performance has not been up to expectation saying that Romo is not throwing the balls to the right spots.

Williams said. "I’m stretching, falling, doing everything. My balls are everywhere."

I've seen many plays this season where it did not seem that Romo and Williams were on the same page.  I have also seen Williams drop several balls.  There is no question that he needs to step up starting with the game this week against the Eagles if people are still ogoing to calll him the number 1 WR.

Cowboys Miles Austin = Bullet Bob Hayes!!!!!!

Early this week I posed the question:  Was Miles Austin the next Bullet Bob Hayes (legend) or Clint Longley (Thanksgiving Day flash in the pan)?

Well he may still be a long way from making the Hall of Fame but he is alot closer to being the Number 1 Wide Receiver for the Dallas Cowboys.  Austin has another great game and his first TD pass of 59 yards set the tone for the rest of the game. After that the Cowboys never trailed.

This is just what the Cowboys needed.  Some marginal player to step up and make a huge difference.  Let's hope it continues and maybe helps Roy Williams a bit.

Cowboys WR Miles Austin: The Next Hayes or Longley???

Players who perform get to play more. 

 

Cowboys WR Miles Austin did perform in the Chiefs game rolling up a team record 250 recieving yards.  He will be the number two WR this week against the Falacons. 

 

Question: Is he the next "Bullet" Bob Hayes or the next Thanksgiving Day Special Clint Longley who didn't taste very good weeks later?

 

Only time will tell but one game does not a season or career make.  Miles will need to show that in his fourth year he can play against the first team defense on every down and make a differnece.  He has shown flashes in the past and last week he was amazing but week in and week out performance is still a question.

 

Team will now key on him knowing that #1 WR Roy Williams is not much of a threat or at least hasn't shown he is yet.

 

Patrick Crayton has been ok this year but not great.  He is now the number three WR and he will be good in that role.  He can make plays.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday that Austin would start and deserved that chance.

 

When asked who the other starting receiver would be, Phillips said it depended "on whether Roy Williams is healthy or not." Williams was a full participant in practice again Wednesday.

 

Still, Crayton seemed miffed Wednesday that "nothing was explained" to him, even though it seems evident to him that Austin will start.

 

"It's been a tough two weeks, but I mean, it comes with the territory," Crayton said. "You've got to be able to respond and bounce back from it and go about your business. "

Crayton plays better he will be the number two WR again!

Dallas Cowboys #1 WR Roy Williams Hurt Again???

Cowboys expensive WR Roy Williams was hurt during yesterday's practice.  Last week it was his wrist, now it is his shoulder.  I hope this is a sign that he is putting in a maximum effort if it's not I have to question his durability during the long season if he is going to be the #1 WR.

X-rays were negative for a break but he still had a shoulder sprain.  It is not known how long he will be out.  He was expected to play at least the first half against the 49ers tomorrow night but I can't see them playing him now.

Also:

Thursday's open practice drew 26,460 fans to Cowboys Stadium. It ran more than two hours and featured interviews on the huge video screen, autographs with Cowboys legends such as Walt Garrison, Drew Pearson and Charles Haley, and a "halftime" performance by the Cowboys cheerleaders.

The Cowboys acquired Duke Preston for offensive line depth on Wednesday and he practiced Thursday, but he is not expected to play Saturday.  "I just got the playbook about four hours ago, so it will be on the run," said Preston, a former Buffalo Bill who was released this week by Green Bay.

TE Martellus Bennett (illness) returned to practice and is expected to play Saturday. ... WR Sam Hurd (quad) did not practice for the third day in a row, but will play Saturday if he is healthy by then.

The Cowboys have 76 players and must get down to 75 by Sept. 1.

Dallas Cowboys 2009: WR Stanback has Knee Injury!!!

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Isaiah Stanback, who is expected to be a key contributor this season, underwent arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to repair a tear of the lateral meniscus in his right knee.

There is no timetable on how long Stanback will be sidelined.

Stanback suffered the injury Tuesday during practice, but did not take the field for Wednesday’s workouts before the injury was made known.

The Cowboys have six healthy wide receivers. They are Roy Williams, Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, Patrick Crayton, Travis Wilson, Julian Hawkins, Kevin Ogletree and the rookie seventh-round pick Manuel Johnson of Oklahoma.

Stanback needs to get healthy and stay healthy.  He has only played a few games in two years.  If he can't stay on the field the Cowboys may need to look elsewhere.

Dallas Cowboys 2009: WR Sam Hurd is Locked and Loaded$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

As expected Cowboys WR Sam Hurd was signed to a one year $1.54 million deal with the Cowboys.  He has been a solid backup and if he can step up in 2009 will be a good signing.  He only played 3 games in 2008 due to a ankle injury that required surgery.  If he can stay healthy it will be a good signing.  His average yards per catch is good.

Will the Dallas Cowboys Pull the Trigger on Terrell 'T.O.' Owens????

Rumors are what rumors are...RUMORS!

Improving locker room chemistry is apparently a highpriority for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason and that will force serious discussions between Wade Phillips' coaching staff and owner Jerry Jones about whether to release controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens.

 

The Cowboys released twice-suspended cornerback Pacman Jones last week and NG Tank Johnson is expected to depart through free agency. Both decisions are at least partly related to the renewed emphasis on creating a different atmosphere in the locker room.

 

Of particular concern is the apparent negative influence Owens has had on teammates such as Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton and even running back Marion Barber.

 

Not only does Owens have relationship issues with quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten, but the controversial receiver consistently criticized Garrett's play calling and his offensive schemes to the point that sources say the offensive coordinator does not believe they can coexist.

 

Who will stay and who will go?  Who knows?  Stay tuned - Soap Opera Dallas Cowboys is in affect!

 

 

My guess is that everyone is pissed about being knocked out of the playoffs.  Love of god either the Cardinals or the Eagles are going to the Super Bowl.  It should be the Cowboys and they know it.  Hopefully cooler head prevail and the cowboys will realize that they have a special RB trio and two #1 WRs. 

 

They just need to shut up, play nice and win!

New wide receiver Roy Williams signed a five-year, $45 million deal with the Cowboys that includes $20-23 million in guaranteed money paid over the first three years of the contract.

CRAZY MONEY - I hope Jones knows what he is doing.  With Hurd out I understand it but...

Dallas Cowboys WR Sam Hurd on IR; Ex-Chargers LB Polk signeed.

Dallas Cowboys receiver and special teams player Sam Hurd was placed on injured reserve Thursday, ending his season. Hurd injured his left ankle in the preseason finale and missed the first three regular-season games. The third-year receiver reinjured the ankle Sunday and had surgery this week.

The Cowboys filled the gap left by Hurd by signing free-agent linebacker Carlos Polk. Polk spent seven seasons with the San Diego Chargers until being released at the end of training camp.

The Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions on Tuesday. The Cowboys will give up a first-round pick in 2009, plus a third- and sixth-rounder that year for Williams and a seventh-round pick in '09.

The Cowboys are also trying to negotiate a long-term deal with Williams before completing the deal. Williams has expressed unhappiness playing for the winless Lions and can become a free agent after the season unless the team places the franchise tag on him.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes Williams is a game-breaker who provides an immediate boost to a faltering offense without quarterback Tony Romo and views him as a potential long-term solution as the eventual replacement for aging Terrell Owens, according to another high-ranking Cowboys source.
